Global Ethanol Production Down, Biodiesel Up In 2012

New figures suggest global production of ethanol and biodiesel slipped about half a per cent in 2012.

The Worldwatch Institute report says global biodiesel output was up fractionally in 2012, but not enough to counter the drop in ethanol production.

The report says biodiesel now accounts for over 20 per cent of the world’s biofuel production.

The U-S led the world in both ethanol and biodiesel production in 2012.

Canada was number four in ethanol production but didn’t crack the top five in biodiesel production.

U-S ethanol production in 2012 totalled 50 point 4 billion liters.

Canada’s was 1 point 8 billion.
