Huron Federation Briefs Political Reps

Both Huron-Bruce M-P Ben Lobb and M-P-P Lisa Thompson were on hand for the Huron Federation of Agriculture’s Meet the Members Day on Friday.

Federation President Carol Leeming explains it’s a chance for the federal and provincial members to meeting with producers as well as municipal representatives to discuss issues that impact agriculture.

Leeming says those issues included the high cost of energy in Ontario, the loss of agricultural manufacturing businesses, concerns over trade and exporting agreements at the federal level, risk management programs, and the amount of red tape that farmers have to deal with on a day to day basis.

She adds another major concern is the closing of post-secondary agricultural institutions in Kempville and Alfred.

Leeming pointed out that can only make it more difficult for young people to get into farming.

She says there are three jobs waiting for every graduate of an agricultural college but there are fewer places where people can now get that training.

Carol Leeming explains it’s always provides an excellent opportunity for the federal and provincial members to meeting with producers as well as municipal politicians to discuss agricultural issues.

And Leeming adds there were a number of them to discuss this year….
