Feds Helping Fund Maple Leaf Processing Upgrades

Maple Leaf Foods says it’s Hamilton plant will be the most advanced prepared meats facility in North America.

The federal government is putting 5 million dollars into that project.

The money will go towards a full-automated process the government says will significantly improve food safety.

It also includes built -in features to make it easier to trace the product coming out of that plant.

When the project is completed the Maple Leaf Foods Hamilton plant will be able to produce 82 million kilograms of deli products annually.

The money comes from the government’s Enabling Commericalization and Adoption Stream and is described in the government announcement as repayable funding.
