O.F.A. director pleased with rural Ontario representation

A director with the Ontario Federation of Agriculture is excited by the fact so many members of the provincial cabinet are from rural Ontario.

Patrick Jilesen said it’s the first time in his experience that a majority of cabinet members are from rural areas and know about the issues.

“There’s the party whip right here in this riding in Grey Bruce Owen Sound, there’s the minister of education right next door to one side and just below her you have the Minister of Infrastructure, you have their PAs [parliamentary assistants], the minister of agriculture, of course, rural Ontario, thank goodness,” he said.

Jilesen said it’s an opportunity to make positive change for rural Ontario.

“Most importantly they will have an understanding of what goes on in rural Ontario so what a great opportunity,” said Jilesen. “I can’t wait to see what comes of this.   This is now our time that we’ve been working towards, this our time to shine and our time to show what rural Ontario is all about.”

Jilesen is a former president of the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture.
