Jr. Hockey Wrap-Up - January 21, 2018

The Lakeshore Canadiens scored early and beat the Admirals 3-1 in Amherstburg Sunday night.

The Canadiens are tied for second in the PJHL Stobbs Division standings with 51 points. Amherstburg is in fourth place, but just one point behind with 50. There are two weeks remaining in the junior C regular season.

The game was penalty-free.

Connor Rosaasen scored first for the Canadiens at 1:20 in the opening period. Lakeshore added another single goal in the middle frame when Matt Smith found the net, making the score 2-0 after two periods.

The Addys got on the board at 1:35 in the third period on a Cory Burns goal, but the Canadiens went out to a two-goal lead again when Steven Sartor scored with four seconds left in regulation.

Erik Morneau had 20 saves in goal for the Canadiens. Ben Larder stopped 26 shots in the loss for Amherstburg.

The Admirals hit the road Monday night and face the Wheatley Omstead Sharks. Lakeshore plays the 73s in Essex Tuesday in a key Stobbs matchup.

Nolan VandenBoorn scored twice as the Dresden Kings beat the Blades in Blenheim 4-2.

The Kings extend their lead in the Stobbs Division to three points with 54. The Blades are tied for seventh place with 26 points.

The two teams exchanged goals in the first frame. Drew Marlatt put the Blades up first with just 39 seconds gone. VandenBoorn tied the game for the Kings before the first intermission.

VandenBoorn struck again in the second period with his second score of the game, giving Dresden a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

It took just 35 seconds of the third period for the Kings to extend their lead, as Derek Shaw lit the lamp. The Blades came within one late in the period on a Bryce Broad goal, but Dresden sealed it with a empty-net score from Brady Hogg to end the game.

Brendan Johnston faced just 18 shots in net for Dresden, stopping 16 of them. Chris DeWulf had 42 saves for the Blades.

The Kings host Petrolia Friday night. The Blades host Wheatley next Sunday.
