Saginaw Sinks Spitfires 3-2 In Shootout

A lack of shooting caught up to the Windsor Spitfires Sunday.

The Spitfires had only 17 shots on goal in their 3-2 shootout loss to the Saginaw Spirit at the WFCU Centre. The Spirit had 48 shots on Windsor goalie Michael DiPietro.

Windsor does get a point out of it. They now have 48 points in the OHL West Division standings, just one point ahead of Saginaw.

Mathew MacDougall's ninth goal of the year put Windsor on the board first late in the first period.

The Spirit tied the game in the middle frame with a goal by Jake Goldowski at 9:18. Cole Coskey put Saginaw in the lead before the end of the period with his 20th score of the season.

Luke Boka tied the game again for Windsor with the third period's only goal, his eighth of the year.

Overtime passed without a winner, and Saginaw outshot Windsor 8-2. Coskey was the only shootout skater to put a puck in the back of the net.

DiPietro had 46 saves for the Spits. Evan Cormier stopped 15 shots in goal for Saginaw.

Windsor hosts the rival London Knights Thursday.
