Spitfires, DiPietro Shut Out Oshawa 3-0

Michael DiPietro stopped all 38 Oshawa shots as the Windsor Spitfires shut out the Generals 3-0 Saturday at the WFCU Centre.

It was the second goose egg of the season for DiPietro and his franchise-best tenth. The Spits have 31 points and are in third place in the OHL West Division.

Kirill Kozhevnikov opened the scoring with his first career OHL goal, on the power play with over three minutes elapsed in the first period. The Generals outshot the Spitfires 16-10 in the opening frame.

Cole Purboo continued his offensive tear by doubling the Windsor lead just after the start of the second period, extending his goal-scoring streak to three games. Nathan Staios put his seond puck of the season into the net to give the Spits a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

There was no scoring in the third period, but Sean Day had a failed penalty shot at 30 seconds left in regulation.

Cole Ceci had 22 saves in goal for Oshawa.

The Flint Firebirds head to the WFCU Centre for a Sunday matinee.
