Essex Stops Wheatley 3-2November 20, 2017 9:16pm
The Essex 73s scored early and often and beat the Sharks in Wheatley 3-2 Monday night.
The win gives Essex 32 points in the PJHL Stobbs Division, leapfrogging the idle Lakeshore Canadiens for the division lead. The Sharks remain tied for seventh place in the division with 17 points.
Wyatt O’Neil started the scoring for the 73s first at 7:28 in the opening period. This was followed by a goal later in the frame from Michael Ruttinger for a 2-0 Essex lead after one period.
The 73s extended their lead in the second period to 3-0 when Anthony Cristofaro found the net. Wheatley scored boack-to-back goals later in the period from Steve MacDonald and a power-play tally by Mitch Lantin.
There was no scoring in the third period. Tyler Ryan stopped 22 out of 24 shots in goal for Essex. Dylan Zelko took the loss for the Sharks with 30 saves out of 33 attempts.
The 73s host Blenheim Tuesday night while Wheatley is off till Sunday, when they travel to Petrolia.
