The London Nationals used the power play to stump the Chatham Maroons.
The Nationals went four-for-six on the extra-man advantage in their 8-4 win over the Maroons Sunday night at Memorial Arena. Jordan DiCicco had two of those power-play goals for London.
In penalty minutes, Chatham had 14 minutes on seven infractions. London had four penalties for eight penalty minutes.
The Nationals added two points to their total for 12 and settle into a tie with the LaSalle Vipers for second place in the GOJHL Western Conference.
The Maroons appeared to pick up where they left off Saturday night against Komoka, when Josh Supryka scored at just 21 seconds into the game. However, the Nationals had two power-play goals before the first period was out, the first by DiCicco, the second by Max Vinogradov.
London added to the lead in the second period when Brett Primeau made it a 3-1 game at 2:01. Chatham's Grant Spence responded a little over a minute later. The Nationals strengthened their lead with DiCicco's second power-play goal of the game, followed by a Kyle Dawson tally. Spence added another goal for the Maroons, but scoring by Josh Coyle and Brandon Glover provided London with a 7-3 lead after two periods.
The two teams exchanged goals in the third period, first from Chatham's Dane Johnstone, then from London's Vinogradov with his second of the contest.
Zachary Springer faced 28 shots in goal for the Nationals, stopping 24. Ryan Wagner had 30 shots for the Maroons out of 38 attempts.
The Nationals host St. Marys on Wednesday.
The Maroons head to Sarnia Thursday night to face the Legionnaires. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:10pm with all the action on CFCO Country 92.9/AM 630.
