Jr. Hockey Wrap-Up - September 23, 2017

Cory Burns picked up a hat trick, but the Amherstburg Integrity Admirals lost at home 6-5 Saturday night to the Blenheim Blades.

Burns put the Addys on the board 39 seconds into the game. Ethan Paxton tied it up on a power play goal for the Blades. Kaden Ritchie gave Amherstburg the lead again at 7:28 but Dede Cato of the Blades evened the score again just 20 seconds later.  Nick Delyzer's goal provided Blenheim with a 3-2 lead, but Burns' second goal on the night, with the power play, knotted the game at 3-all after one period.

The Blades scored two goals in the second period, from Colton Shoemaker and Cato to put themselves up 5-3 after two periods. The Admirals got those goals back in the third, with Burns completing the hat trick and Austin Jennings tying the game at five apiece.

Cato scored the game-winner in overtime to finish his own hat trick.

Catalin Morin made 21 saves in goal for Amherstburg and played 51 minutes, taking the loss. Ben Larder was in goal for the remainder. Eric Stewardson stopped 33 shots for the Blenheim win.

Amherstburg welcomes Mooretown to the Libro Centre Sunday night while Blenheim hosts Petrolia.

The Mooretown Flags scored three second-period goals on their way to a 5-2 home win over the Wheatley Omstead Sharks.

Logan Gardner scored the only first-period goal to give the Flags a 1-0 lead at first intermission. Brett Farr extended the Flags' lead at 67 seconds into the middle stanza. The Sharks got on the board a little last the midway point of the period on a score from Cole Butler, though within the following two-and-a-half minutes, Mooretown scored two goals, from Daniel Wellington and Gardner. Butler scored again for Wheatley before the second period ended.

Josh Vale's power play goal strengthened the Mooretown lead in the third period, though it was a wild period with plenty of penalties. Wheatley's Dawson Iles, Parker Boyle and Justin Pinsonneault all received game misconducts in the final stanza.

Jake Wilkins saved 32 out of 34 shots for the Flags in goal, while Wheatley's Daniel Tonietto had 45 saves out of a possible 50 shots.

The Sharks host the Dresden Kings on Monday night.

Andrew Kim scored twice for the Komoka Kings at home as they and the Sarnia Legionnaires skated to a 3-3 tie.

There was no scoring in the first period, though Komoka had three power play chances in the period to Sarnia's one.

The Legionnaries took a 2-0 lead however in the second period, with goals from Nolan DeGurse and Ethan Dupont. Kim scored on the power play near the end of the middle frame for a 2-1 Komoka lead.

The Kings came back in the third and tied the game at 2-all with Isaac McLean's goal. Sarnia regained the lead less than two minutes later on a goal by Joey Zappa. Kim's second goal of the game tied the game again before regulation ended.

The two overtime periods came and went with no winner. Sarnia outscored Komoka 8-6 throughout the overtime.

The Legionnaires travel to St. Thomas Sunday night while the Kings head to Leamington on Thursday.

T.J. Harris scored two goals for the Strathroy Rockets in their 4-3 win over the visiting St. Marys Lincolns.

The Rockets scored twice in the opening period with goals from Nicolas Grandy and Harris. The Lincolns responded with two goals of their own in the second period from Jared Bogdon and Dalton Smith.

Harris' second goal came at 6:21 in the third period and the Rockets regained the lead. Clayton Lewis tied the game on the power play for the Lincolns at 12:15, though Greg Marks scored an extra-man goal himself for Strathroy just 34 seconds later.

The end of regulation was marked by an all-out brawl. Jeff Williams and Spencer Allen of the Rockets received game misconducts, while Oliver Weiringa and Tanner Hertel of the Lincolns earned them as well.

Zack Weir was the game-winner in goal for the Rockets, with 32 saves out of 35 shots. Evan Morrison stopped 26 shots in the loss for St. Marys.

Strathroy travels Thursday to Sarnia to face the Legionnaires while the Rockets next host Leamington on Saturday, September 30.
