Spitfires Goalie Gets Key To Amherstburg

Amherstburg's mayor plans to present Windsor Spitfires Goalie Michael DiPietro with a key to the town.

The practice goes back to medieval times when towns were sometimes surrounded by walls and locked gates. This will be the first presentation of its kind in Amherstburg.

DiPietro started his hockey career in Amherstburg at the age of 6 and had since gone on to play for the Spitfires. He was picked up in this year's NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks.

"Michael's continued hard work and dedication to his sport has notably allowed him to reach his goals, will continue to propel him forward, and will undoubtedly have a positive influence, as an exemplary role model, on the youth of our community," says Mayor Aldo DiCarlo. "He will always be welcome in Amherstburg, his home town."

The presentation is at Amherstburg Town Hall at 10am Thursday.
