OHL Players in Summer Showcase

Southern Ontario was well-represented at the Ontario Hockey League's summer event this week.

32 OHL players were invited to show off their skills at the World Juniors Summer Showcase, held through Saturday at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. 13 of those players represented OHL clubs in southwestern and Midwestern Ontario.

The showcase is considered a test event for the World Juniors, set to take place over the Christmas holidays in Buffalo. It is also a tune-up for some OHL players before their respective training camps begin later this month.

The Memorial Cup-champion Windsor Spitfires had five players participating in the showcase. Playing for Canada were goaltender Michael DiPietro, defenceman Logan Stanley and forward Gabriel Vilardi. Defenceman Sean Day and forward Logan Brown played for Team USA.

The London Knights also had five players in Plymouth. For Canada, defenceman Victor Mete participated along with forwards Cliff Pu and Robert Thomas. Forward Max Jones played for the Americans and forward Janne Kuokkanen skated for Finland. Kuokkanen scored three times for Finland during the week.

The Owen Sound Attack were represented by two forwards playing for Canada, Jonah Gadjovich and Nick Suzuki. The Sarnia Sting had one representative, Canadian forward Jordan Kyrou, who scored three times over the course of the showcase.
