Jamieson Golf Tour Hits Sutton Creek

The annual Jamieson junior golf tour stopped at Sutton Creek Golf Club Thursday.

Despite high humidity, gusty winds and tricky pin placement, the eighth event of the tour was the second half of the Widdifield Cup, which combines scores from Sutton Creek and the venue for Wednesday's seventh round, the Ambassador Golf Club in Windsor. 83 young golfers teed off for the Thursday round.

Jasmine Ly of Roseland Golf Club won the cup in the junior girls' division, shooting a 73 to win the round. She also won Wednesday's round and finished with a combined score of 149. Sophia Fallea was runner-up with a two-day total of 167.

In the junior boys' division, David Nunes of the Essex Golf and Country Club shot a 71 and was the only player in the division to break par, taking the round victory in the process. Despite being two strokes back, Beach Grove's James Hill won the Widdifield Cup with a combined score of 144, one stroke ahead of runner-up Shawn Sehra.

In the collegiate men's division, Brendan Seys of Maple City in Chatham shot a 67, including four birdies. The Wayne State University student also eagled the par-five 12th hole in the round victory. The only other golfer to break par was Thomas Demarco of Northern Illinois University, who shot a three-under-par 69.

The collegiate women's division was settled yet again by a playoff, featuring three golfers who have been playoff veterans in this year's tour - Melanie Burgess, Madeline Byrne and Megan Schauer. With all three shooting 83 in regulation, Byrne was eliminated on the first sudden-death hole. It would take two more sudden-death holes before Schauer emerged victorious, for her sixth win of the season.

The next leg of the tour, the ninth of the summer, takes place Monday at Essex Golf and Country Club.
