Junior Golf Tour Stops at Ambassador

Junior and collegiate golfers made a stop in Windsor Thursday.

The seventh event of this year's Jamieson Junior Tour took place at Ambassador Golf Club. The event is the first half of the Widdifield Cup competition, in which the junior boys and junior girls with the lowest combined totals of the two rounds will win.

A total of 90 golfers teed off Thursday.

In the junior boys division, Marcus Slipchuk of Pointe West shot a one-under-par 70 for the round, the only golfer in the division to break par Thursday. He hit birdies on the tricky sixth and 16th holes at Ambassador for his first victory of the year. In junior girls, Jasmine Ly of Roseland took the round with a two-over-par 73 for her fourth season win.

Nicholas Mihalo birdied three holes out of the first four to win the collegiate men's division at even par 71. He is starting at Robert Morris University in the fall. The collegiate women's division, however, had to be settled via playoff. Megan Schauer won the second playoff hole over Melanie Burgess to win her fifth event of the season. Schauer had lost a playoff Monday at Kingsville Golf Club.

The second half of the Widdifield Cup takes place Thursday at Sutton Creek Golf Club in Essex.
