Spitfires Acquire Two Forwards From Barrie

The Windsor Spitfires have made a deal leading into Canada Day weekend.

The Memorial Cup champions announced Friday that they have acquired via trade forwards Mathew MacDougall and Victor DeSanctis from the Barrie Colts. The Colts are also sending their 15th round pick to Windsor for 2021.

In return for MacDougall, the Spits are sending to Barrie their 14th round draft pick for 2018 and a conditional fourth round pick in 2020. Spitfires general manager Warren Rychel says MacDougall is a player he was eyeing for a while.

“Our scouting staff coveted Mathew in the draft,” says Rychel in a statement. “We were unable to get him at the time, but we’re very happy to get his rights today. Mathew is an elite skater that has pro potential."

MacDougall, 17, is from Newmarket, Ont. He played 50 games last season for St. Andrew's College, scoring 20 goals and 15 assists. He was taken by the Colts in the third round of the 2016 OHL Priority Selection draft and was on the roster for the 2016 OHL Cup-winning York Simcoe Express.

For DeSanctis, Windsor is sending their conditional 11th round pick for 2019 and their 15th round pick for 2021 to the Colts. Rychel praises DeSanctis' work ethic.

“Vincent is a hard-working, sturdy and hard-nosed player who does his best work on the forecheck. He will have a chance to crack our young lineup at training camp in August," says Rychel.

DeSanctis stands at 5' 11" and 190 pounds and plays right wing. The 17-year-old native of Howard Beach, NY played last season for the PAL Junior Islanders, where he scored 18 goals over 56 games. He was taken by the Colts in the 13th round of last year's OHL Priority Selection.
