Jr. Hockey Wrap Up – April 17, 2017

The London Nationals beat the Listowel Cyclones 4-1 on Monday to take a 2-1 series lead in the Sutherland Cup semifinals.

Jaimen Allison, Brandon Glover, Adam Sinclair and Austin Kemp all scored once for London.

London head coach Pat Powers was asked after the game if his team's physical play helped wear down the Listowel defence.

"That's a compliment," says Powers. "It means we played the game the right way tonight. We knew that coming in here that Listowel's an extremely competitive team and if we want to come in here and win again we have to out work them."

Cameron Zanussi made 27 saves including one with a glove at point blank range.

"He's had maybe one or twobad games all playoffs," says Powers. "Every goal Listowel's got on him they worked hard for. That's why he was in the OHL for a couple of years. He's a good goaltender, he's mentaly strong and he's a competitor."

The Nationals and the Cyclones return to the ice on Wednesday for Game 4. The puck drops at 7:30pm in London.

And in the Schmalz Cup semifinals, the Ayr Centennials eliminated the Essex 73's following a 2-1 victory in Game 7.

Eric Shaw scored the single goal for Essex.

The Centennials won the semifinal series 4-3, and will now take on the Port Hope Panthers in the Schmalz Cup championship.
