Jr. C Playoff Hockey Wrap Up - February 19, 2017

Tyler Scott had two assists for the Essex 73s as they beat the Amherstburg Integrity Admirals 3-2 Sunday night at the Libro Centre.

Essex takes a 2-0 lead in their playoff series.

The 73s killed off one penalty in the first period, but soon after, Anthony Cristofaro scored when Essex had a power play of its own.  Eric Shaw scored before the second intermission to give the 73s a 2-0 lead.

The Admirals got on the board in the second period on a goal from Cory Burns.  Essex got that goal back later in the stanza on a goal from Sylvano Valente.  Luke Gangnon made the score 3-2 Essex with just five seconds left in the period.

There was no scoring in the third period, and each team had an unsuccessful power play chance.  Tyler Ryan faced 22 shots in goal for the 73s and stopped 20 of them.  Catalin Morin had 22 saves in goal for the Addys.

Dustin Maines scored twice and added an assist as the Blenheim Blades beat the Lakeshore Canadiens 6-0 Sunday at Blenheim Memorial Arena.

The win gives the Blades a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven Stobbs Division semifinal series.

The game began with a little tension between the two teams, as each team found itself shorthanded three times in the first 20 minutes of play.  The Blades were the only team capitalizing on a power-play when Maines scored the first period's only goal.

Blenheim exploded for four goals in the second period.  Braeden Allore started it off by doubling the Blades' lead to 2-0.  Drew Marlatt then scored on the power play.  Michael Vanek and Matt Clark also lit the lamp for the Blades to extend their lead at the second intermission 5-0.  Colin Tetreault was pulled from goal for the Canadiens midway through the period and replaced with Jared Ratko.

Maines picked up his second goal of the game in the third period to extend the Blenheim lead to 6-0 and conclude the scoring.  The Blades had nine penalties for 18 minutes in the game, while Lakeshore racked up 22 penalty minutes in seven infractions.

Eric Stewardson stopped all 33 shots in goal for the Blades.

Game 3 is Friday night at the Atlas Tube Centre in Lakeshore.
