Vipers Stump Strathroy in OT 4-3

Brett Banwell scored the overtime winner as the LaSalle Vipers beat the Rockets at Strathroy Saturday night 4-3.

The Vipers maintain their GOJHL Western Conference lead with 73 points, while the Rockets are tied for sixth place with 37 points.

LaSalle's Daniel Beaudoin scored the first period's only goal at 7:09, on the power play.  Strathroy began the second period with two unanswered goals.  Matthew Stevens tied the game at 6:06 and T.J. Harris put the Rockets in the lead precisely three minutes later.  The Vipers went on the power play next and Liam MacDougall knotted the game up at 2-2.  Stevens picked up his second goal of the night at 11:43 and put Strathroy back in the lead 3-2, but LaSalle's Chris Playfair tied the game up again at 17:20 in the second period.

The score was tied at three-all throughout the third period, forcing overtime.  Banwell's winner came at 1:10 in the overtime frame.

Eli Billing was the winning goalie for LaSalle, stopping 34 out of 37 Strathroy shots.  Zach Weir had 56 saves for the Rockets.

The Vipers travel to London to face the Nationals Wednesday night, while the Rockets host the Nationals next Saturday night.
