Spitfires Knock Off Hamilton 5-3

Hayden McCool had a goal and two assists as the Windsor Spitfires beat the Hamilton Bulldogs 5-3 Sunday night at the WFCU Centre.

Mikhail Sergachev added three assists for Windsor.  The win gives the Spits 67 points and second place in the OHL West Division standings, and fourth place in the Western Conference standings.  The victory comes after two tough weekend losses.

Adam Laishram got the Spitfires on the board first at 13:41 in the first period on a man-advantage goal.  The 1-0 lead for Windsor carried over into the second period, and the game was tied by Hamilton's Michael Cramarossa at 4:54.   McCool put the Spitfires back in the lead at 16:05 of the period, but the Bulldogs tied it up again before the second intermission with Matt Luff's 17th goal of the season.

Graham Knott broke the 2-2 deadlock at 8:54 in the third period, and Aaron Luchuk provided insurance with 1:06 left in regulation.  Hamilton goalie Dawson Carty was pulled for the extra attacker and Hamilton's Brandon Saigeon scored to put his team within one.  That goal would become moot when Luke Boka scored an empty-netter to end the game.

Mario Culina stopped 24 out of 27 Bulldog shots in goal for Windsor, who host the Saginaw Spirit on Thursday night.
