Spitfires Drop Spirit 5-1

Mikhail Sergachev scored twice as the Windsor Spitfires beat the Spirit in Saginaw 5-1 Sunday afternoon.

The Spits remain in second place in the OHL West Division standings.

Sergachev's afternoon began when he assisted on the first goal of the game, from Windsor's Aaron Luchuk at 9:50 in the first period.  Sergachev then scored himself at 16:38 to increase the Spitfires lead to 2-0.

Jalen Chatfield increased the Windsor lead with an insurance goal at nine minutes into the second period, his sixth goal of the season.  Saginaw scored its only goal of the game at 15:39, the 22nd goal of the year for Hayden Hodgson.

Sergachev's scoring prowess showed itself in the third period when he scored his second goal of the game at 3:37.  Cristiano DiGiacinto put the game out of reach later in the final period.

Michael DiPietro turned away all except one of Saginaw's 27 shots.  Brendan Bonello had 36 saves in the crease for the Spirit.

Windsor travels to Kitchener Tuesday night to take on the Rangers.
