Wheatley Doubles Up Wallaceburg 4-2

Delaney Macdonald got two assists as the Wheatley Omstead Sharks beat the Wallaceburg Lakers Monday night 4-2 at Wheatley Area Arena.

It was the first game of 2017 for both teams, and it leaves Wheatley in seventh place in the PJHL Stobbs Division with 27 points.  The Lakers remain with three points and are in last place.

Wheatley did all of its scoring on four unanswered goals.  Eric Prudence got things started with a goal at 8:48 in the opening period.  The second frame brought two additional goals from the Sharks, the first on the power play from Alixe Saliba, at 8:53.  Antonio Ciampa, who assisted on the Saliba goal, scored himself later in the period for a 3-0 Wheatley lead at second intermission.

Justin Pinsonneault made it 4-0 in the third period, scoring at just 38 ticks in.  Wallaceburg then scored two goals within the last three minutes of regulation.  Trevor Waller got the Lakers on the board at 17:04, and teammate Matt Farrugia scored 53 seconds later.

Both teams are in action again Wednesday night.  Wallaceburg will host Petrolia while Wheatley travels to Mooretown.
