Lancers Award Athletes Of The Year

The Windsor Lancers have awarded two of their standout players as University of Windsor Athletes of the Year.

Korissa Williams and Spencer Pommells walked away with multiple awards during the Evening of Excellence, which highlighted the accomplishments of the Windsor Lancers. The event was held at the St. Clair Centre of the Arts, Wednesday evening.

Williams, an Amherstburg native, was named the CIS Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Year and a CIS first team all-Canadian. In OUA regular season action, Williams averaged 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists per game to lead the Lancers to a 19-1 conference record and the OUA championship. She was named an OUA First Team All-Star as well as the OUA Defensive Player of the Year. Williams and teammate Jocelyn LaRocque are the first women's basketball players in CIS history to win five CIS national championship titles in a career.

Pommells, a Grande Prairie, Alberta native, became the first Lancer in school history to claim the Joseph A. Sullivan Trophy as the CIS Men’s Hockey Player of the Year with the Lancer Men’s Hockey team. Pommells racked up 50 points in 27 league games, including 16 goals and a CIS-leading 34 assists, to win the national scoring race by a large margin. He was also named a CIS first-team All-Canadian and the OUA Men’s Hockey Player of the Year.
