Flooding causes Downtown Mission to temporarily close beds

The Downtown Mission Wellness Centre is suspending its sanctuary bed program because of flooding.

The Mission said Thursday’s intense rain flooded the basement at 875 Ouellette Ave. and is causing problems with the building’s elevator. Mission officials said the 103 beds are temporarily unavailable until the elevator service is restored.

“We are working closely with our elevator contractor to assess the damage and determine what repairs are needed, so that we can safely operate the Wellness Centre with confidence this evening," said Ron Dunn, executive director of the Downtown Mission. " The weather report is not good for this evening and we do not want any of our guests to be at risk. We are also working with our service partners and City of Windsor Administration on contingency plans should we not be able to provide our regular Sanctuary Program.”
