Cooler October, milder November anticipated

It's time to bring the sweaters out from storage. Autumn arrives at 9:54 p.m. Saturday night.

The Weather Network has already released its fall outlook.

Meteorologist Brad Rousseau says southwestern Ontario is in for more hot and humid weather this week as summer winds down, but the region is in for a bit of a cool down in October.

"October we're expecting to be near or just below seasonal," said Rousseau Monday morning. "November will come in just above what we expect for November. Overall, the trend for southwestern Ontario should come in just a smidge above normal."

Off the top, Rousseau was quick to point out forecasting for fall can be difficult since the season is a transition from the heat of summer to the bitter cold of winter. However, he does not anticipate any abnormal precipitation, and perhaps less rain than usual for November.

"When I say cooler, I mean November is a cooler month than September and October, so it's still going to feel like autumn, but overall what we're saying is, with respect to a normal November, we will trend a little bit warmer," he clarified.

So, when can we expect the first snow to fly? Rousseau says we will have to wait until later in the calendar.

"Luckily, November eases into winter, so any snow doesn't appear likely in the near future," he said. "That will likely have to wait until the winter months."
