City introduces app in a bid to improve parking near schools

After a week of educating residents and drivers about parking enforcement near Windsor's schools, parking enforcement will start issuing tickets this week.

Last week, parking enforcement officers handed out postcards to drivers dropping their children off at school with information about the app "myschoolneighbourhood". It lets drivers know where it is okay to "stop, drop off and park" before and after the school bell.

The app is on the MappMyCity page of the city's website.

"We want to help residents know what they can expect when they enter an area," said Bill Kralovensky, the city's supervisor of compliance and enforcement. "By planning ahead, drivers especially can avoid a ticket, but more importantly, avoid accidents that happen when people stop where they shouldn't."

It connects users to a map of the city. By entering a school name, residents can view a colour coded map with information like school bus zones and no-parking areas.

During the last school year, city parking enforcement officers issued tickets in school zones across the city.
