Windsor Unveils Streamlined Activity Website

Windsor residents who like to play and stay active will now have a more convenient way to schedule their activities.

The city of Windsor's recreation and culture department unveiled Thursday a revamped version of their Reconnect Windsor website, which allows people the ability to schedule classes and look at course offerings.

The upgraded site, called Active Windsor, replaces the 20-year-old Reconnect system with a new software system, designed to allow residents to search for and sign up for their favourite programs.

At the official website launch, held Thursday morning at the Windsor International Aquatic Training Centre, Ray Mensour, the city's executive director of recreation and culture, says it's easy for people to sign up, create a profile and register for courses.

"In four easy steps, you can create an online account, from any device at any time," says Mensour. "You'll spend less time looking for activities, as they can now be searched for with keywords such as age, location, day and time."

The revamped site also makes it easier for people to pay for courses online, without having to visit a customer care centre, as well as create wish lists for people wanting to take certain classes.

The site will work in tandem with the traditional printed activity guide that will be available at the city's community centres and arenas, according to Mayor Drew Dilkens.

"There are still some folks in the community who like to hold onto a guide," says Dilkens. "We're going to continue to print those guides three times a year for those who want to have something in their hand and turn the pages. But for those who are more adept at being online, we now have that new interface with ActiveWindsor.ca."

The site relaunch was done in conjunction with the release of the city's fall activity guide, which came out Friday.

Registration for the city of Windsor's fall programs opens on Tuesday, September 4, with fall program sessions beginning on Monday, September 17.

People can now create their accounts on the website. As an added incentive, the city is giving away a four-pack of tickets to Adventure Bay Family Water Park, to be drawn from those who create an account.
