Charges Laid In Bizarre Hazmat Situation

Two Leamington men are facing the music after a bizarre situation in Windsor Friday night.

It all began around 6pm when citizens told Windsor police about a black truck that had been driving erratically and caused a minor crash between two vehicles on Tecumseh Rd. E near Ford Blvd.

The pickup fled the scene, but police noticed it minutes later, stopped near the Tim Hortons on Tecumseh Rd. E and Forest Glade Dr. A Good Samaritan had used his own vehicle to block the pickup after witnessing erratic driving and what appeared to be an unconscious person in the driver's seat.

The two suspects in the pickup appeared to be in medical distress and were taken to hospital for assessment. Officers also found a number of bags containing an unknown white powder.

The scene was then treated as a hazmat situation and Tecumseh Rd. E was blocked off between Forest Glade Dr. and Lauzon Rd. for over two hours.

The pickup truck was decontaminated and a number of items were seized as evidence.

A 34-year-old Leamington man has been charged with impaired driving, failure to remain at the scene of a crash, possession of suspected cocaine for trafficking purposes and possession of suspected marijuana.

His 18-year-old companion is charged with possession of suspected cocaine for trafficking purposes and possession of suspected marijuana.
