City To Start Work On Two Pedestrian Crossovers

The City of Windsor says it will start work soon on two pedestrian crossovers where pedestrians have been struck by vehicles.

"A pedestrian crossover is a little different from a crosswalk because it's located in areas where there are no traffic lights or stop signs nearby," says Executive Director of Operations, Dwayne Dawson.

The city has released a video to educate the public about the proper use of a pedestrian crossover.

The first one will be across Wyandotte St. E at Chilver Rd. where three people have been struck by vehicles over the past five years. One pedestrian was fatally injured.

The second will be on Prince Rd. at Barrymore Ln. where a four-year-old girl was struck by a Windsor Transit bus earlier this spring.

The designated crossing has ground markings and flashing signals to alert drivers to yield to pedestrians. Drivers and cyclists are required to stop and wait until the pedestrian has fully crossed the road.
