Windsor Shelter Gets Help From Community

The Welcome Centre Shelter for Women got a substantial financial boost this week.

Local Shoppers Drug Mart owners donated $28,000 and the Loose Goose pub in downtown Windsor pitched in with $2,700 from a fundraiser.

“When we were told the amount of the donation, we were blown away,” says Kristin Douglas, Strategic Partnerships Manager. “They have always been a big supporter of ours but we were not expecting a donation of this magnitude”.

The shelter says this donation allowed them to finally pay off their mortgage for their current building.

The Welcome Centre continues looking for a new location.

The 18 bed shelter is the sole provider of emergency services for homeless women and families affected by domestic violence in Windsor-Essex.

It provides basic needs, advocacy and referral services to over 600 people each year.
