Windsor's Labour Participation Rate Lowest In Canada

The unemployment rate in Windsor dipped slightly last month, but so too did the labour participation rate.

Statistics Canada's Labour Force Survey says the jobless rate in June was down 0.1% from May to 5.8%.

However, the labour participation rate suggests the city had the lowest rate of labour participation or people who are employed, in the country. It fell 0.8% from May to 59.8% in June. The rate has hovered at, or just above 60% since January.

Regina, Saskatchewan has a higher unemployment rate than Windsor, but may actually have more people working. It had the highest labour participation rate in Canada at 72.6%.

The national jobless rate climbed 0.2% last month. The agency says more people were seeking job opportunities and that forced the rate up to 6%.

Ontario's economy added 35,000 new jobs in June, but again, more people were looking for work putting upward pressure on the unemployment rate provincially. It also climbed 0.2% to 5.9%
