Announcement Due On Temporary Windsor Library

The City of Windsor will provide details concerning the future of the Central Branch of the Windsor Public Library.

Mayor Drew Dilkens has scheduled an announcement Monday afternoon, which is expected to reveal a temporary location for the main library.

This location will temporarily house the library when it moves out of its current Ouellette Ave. headquarters next year.

City council members met in-camera in special session on Friday to finalize details of the plan.

The city announced in March that they would sell the current building to the Downtown Mission, which will move its central operations to the library building in the summer of 2019. Dilkens, who also chairs the WPL board, had hoped at the time that a permanent central library location would be ready by then so library services would not be interrupted.

The Mission plans to move its offices and meal services to the first floor of the library building, then eventually transform the second floor into transitional housing. To pay for it, the Mission will sell its Victoria Ave. location and begin a fundraising campaign.
