Some say the best neighbours to have are doctors, nurses, police officers, and firefighters.
An Essex man can tell you first-hand the last one is true.
Last December, Essex Fire and Rescue Services Captain, Joe Meloche was at home when his pager went off for a person in distress.
He could have broken a record for response time since the person in distress was his neighbour.
Meloche, along with two paramedics performed a medical intervention and saved the neighbour's life.
This past Monday, Essex Town Council recognized his service with a Certificate of Recognition.
He was also recognized at the 7th annual Survivor Day Event on June 1. It honours first responders in Windsor-Essex.
First responders were directly responsible for saving 46 lives throughout the region last year.
