New Date For Feedback On Hospital Zoning

There is a new date for people interested in the mega-hospital zoning issue to make themselves heard.

Windsor City Council agreed Monday to move the discussion of the hospital zoning proposal to August 13, with city council and the city's planning, heritage and economic development committee meeting in joint session.

Mayor Drew Dilkens confirmed previously published reports stating that the meeting might be postponed. A joint meeting was initially set for July 16, but the mayor wanted to give everyone involved with the project another month to prepare.

The site for the planned mega-hospital has been a hot-button issue for several years. Supporters of the proposed site near Windsor Airport say the central location is ideal for a full-fledged hospital, while opponents think the hospital would be better off closer to the city centre.

The province of Ontario has expressed support for the project, but former Premier Kathleen Wynne said during a town hall meeting in Windsor in February that the municipality must still sign off on the zoning for the project.

David Musyj, president and CEO of Windsor Regional Hospital, says the site has been chosen and is no longer up for debate, encouraging opponents to bring their ideas to the table rather than fight the process.
