Bare Shelves Trigger Plea For Food Donations

The Welcome Centre Shelter for Women says it urgently needs donations to restock the shelves of its food bank.

The agency operates an emergency food bank for women and children in need living in West Windsor.

It also operates an emergency shelter for women and children seeking asylum from domestic trouble.

"We are putting out a call to the community to help replenish our food bank shelves that are now nearly bare," says a release from the Welcome Centre Shelter for Women.

More than 200 people use the emergency food bank each month. In addition to food bank donations, it is also looking for sponsorship from local businesses. Businesses can choose to collect throughout June, July, August, September, October or November and bring those items to the shelter at the end of the month.

"We get a lot of food bank donations around the holidays that last us quite a while, but as the summer approaches, we start to see our shelves become bare," says Strategic Partnerships Manager Kristin Douglas. "Because of this, we began a monthly food bank sponsor program where local businesses can gather all of their staff to collect much-needed food bank items."
