Matt Marchand Enters Mayor's Race In Windsor

The president of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce wants to be mayor of Windsor.

Matt Marchand made the announcement on Tuesday after filing his papers at city hall saying transparency needs to be restored.

Marchand wants to bring the community together, including labour, to get results saying Windsor needs words that bring action.

"I think we have action in our platform for a reason and I think people want to see action, transparency and accountability," he says.

Marchand says improving infrastructure is a priority and more platform specifics will come during the campaign.

"We have flooded basements and crumbling roads and we have a poverty problem in this community," says Marchand.

Marchand says wanting more action, transparency and inclusion is not a cheap shot at Mayor Drew Dilkens or other mayors adding that he’s been thinking about entering the mayor's race for a while.

"It's not about one person. It's about a new direction, new ideas and new approaches to get things done in this city," Marchand says.

There has been no word yet if Mayor Drew Dilkens is running.

Three others are also in the mayor's race.

The municipal election is October 22.

The chamber says Dr. Janice Forsyth will step in as Acting President and CEO while Marchand makes a bid for mayor.
