Leamington's Deputy Mayor Wants To Be Mayor

After serving the Municipality of Leamington for 12 years, Hilda MacDonald says it is time to throw her hat in the ring for the mayor's seat.

MacDonald has two terms as councillor and one as deputy mayor on her resume.

She also sits on several boards including the Essex County Council, the Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority, and the Lower Thames Conservation Authority.

"I am known for my honesty and fairness," says MacDonald. "I am not afraid to take a stand. My record of the 12 years serving this community speaks for itself."

MacDonald, who is a wife, mother, and grandmother, also previously owned a small business, Strawberries Shop.

So far, the only other candidate who has declared for the position is the current mayor, John Paterson.

She submitted her nomination papers Friday afternoon in Leamington.

The deputy mayor's slot did not remain open very long. The municipality confirmed Friday that Councillor Larry Verbeke has filed to run for deputy mayor.
