High Winds Prompt Flood Watch

With high winds expected in upcoming forecast, the local conservation authority has issued a flood watch for parts of Essex County.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority says there is chance flooding may occur in Leamington, Kingsville, Essex, Amherstburg and Pelee Island Wednesday evening, due to high 30 km/h winds, with gusts that could reach up to 50 km/h.

The winds along with current high lake levels increase the possibility of shoreline erosion and wave damage. Waves overtopping the break walls also have the potential to movie rocks and debris.

Residents are advised to use extra caution and avoid shoreline areas during wind/lake wave events.

The flood watch will remain in effect until noon on Thursday.
