Provincial Mediator Coming To Try & Reignite Casino Talks

The new president of Unifor Local 444 says a provincial mediator is coming back to Windsor Wednesday to try and re-ignite bargaining.

Dave Cassidy says the process is referred to as a “Mediator’s Exploratory Discussion” between the union and Caesars Windsor.

Cassidy says no formal bargaining has been scheduled, but adds it is a step in the right direction to end the lengthy strike.

Casino workers have been on strike since April 6 after rejecting a three-year tentative deal. They then turned down a four-year settlement May 18.

The strike is affecting more than 2,100 employees including dealers, housekeepers, and janitors.

Shows have been postponed, and hotel reservations have been cancelled through June 16 because of the strike.
