Windsor Committee To Discuss Massive Investments Downtown

If they get the city's approval, three major projects worth a total $52.1-million could be coming to downtown Windsor.

The city's Planning, Heritage and Economic Development Standing Committee is being asked to approve $1.8-million in grants and tax rebates for a 16-storey apartment building. The second request is for $3.4-million to help fund renovations at a hotel on Riverside Dr. W. Another request for $528,244 will assist renovations and expansion at a vacant building on Pelissier St. All three requests add up to $5.9-million through a Community Improvement Plant.

At the building on Pelissier between Wyandotte St. W and Park St. W, the proponent wants to renovate the ground floor for commercial space and add three additional storeys for a total of 24 residential units.

Nearby, at the corner of Victoria Ave. and Park St. W, plans are in the works to turn a parking lot into a 16-storey, 120 residential unit apartment building. The $32.9-million project would include two or three retail units on the ground floor.

The third project is at the former Radisson Hotel on Riverside Dr. W. Fahri Holdings wants to spend $13.6-million on both interior and exterior renovations and turn the hotel into a DoubleTree Hilton Suites. That project would include a new restaurant, and facade improvements facing Riverside and Church St.

Once the proponents have the standing committee's approval, all three requests for grants will go to city council.
