Downtown Windsor Thrilled About Return of Parades

The Canada Day and Santa Claus parades are returning to downtown Windsor.

The Windsor Parade Corporation (WPC) and the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association (DWBIA) made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.

The parades will take place on July 1 and December 1, respectively.

The Canada Day parade has taken place on Wyandotte St. E in Walkerville for the past few years and the Santa Claus parade has marched down Sandwich St. in Sandwich Town for several years.

"We're thrilled that the Windsor Parade Corporation is bringing the two parades back downtown," said DWBIA Chair Larry Horwitz. "Instilling national and civic pride and recognizing and celebrating the rich diversity of our city, the parades will engage and attract thousands of visitors to the city centre."

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Windsor Santa Claus Parade.

"The Windsor Parade Corporation is excited to be returning to Downtown Windsor which was the original parade route for the events. This will be the 50th Annual Windsor Santa Claus Parade and it is nice to bring it back to its historic home," said Maggie Durocher, chairperson for The Windsor Parade Corporation.
