Windsor Police Thank Public For Turning In Guns

Windsor police say April's Gun Amnesty Program was successful.

According to police, 13 rifles, eight shotguns, seven handguns, four air rifles, and four air pistols were turned in. Police also recovered one replica firearm, one flare gun, and 383 rounds of ammunition.

The Gun Amnesty Program was for any Ontario resident who wished to voluntarily surrender unwanted or illegally-owned firearms, weapons, accessories, or ammunition.

Windsor police say it increased public safety by reducing the number of firearms in our community. They say the risk of firearms falling into the hands of people with criminal intent is real and ever-present.
