Bond Between Detroit Grand Prix And Windsor Continues Strong

Windsor has again renewed its partnership with the Detroit Grand Prix.

It's the ninth year in a row for the city sponsorship, and again a premier Canadian ticket package provides race fans with a fast and easy way to cross with Transit Windsor.

IndyCar driver Simon Pagenaud says fans are going to love the racing because the track is challenging.

"It's got a lot of corners; there's 14 corners. It's a street course, and you have to be really close to the walls to go fast. You have to take a lot of chances. It's also quite bumpy," says Pagenaud.

Mayor Drew Dilkens is sure Windsor race fans are going to enjoy themselves.

"It's very exciting. We have the City of Windsor grandstand, we sponsor the media centre, and we think it's a real exciting opportunity for Windsorites to get involved," he says.

Dilkens says the $50,000 city price tag is worth every penny.

"It's an opportunity to have people in the community like David Letterman, for people to stay in the hotels here and enjoy that two nation destination that we promote so often," Dilkens says.

The races are June 1-3 on Belle Isle.

Grand Prix Chair Bud Denker says about 10% or 10,000 Canadian race fans attend each race.

Tickets can be bought online or at the downtown transit terminal.

Tickets start at $55.
