UPDATE: Nominations Are Open: Who's Running So Far

A day after the nomination period opened for the fall municipal election, there are already candidates declared for the mayoral positions in Windsor-Essex.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens has not yet said if he plans to run for re-election, but there is a challenger; Tom Hensell. The only other candidate declared is Xavier Gonzalez in Ward 9.

In LaSalle, Deputy Mayor Marc Bondy has filed papers for the top job after current Mayor Ken Antaya announced plans to leave municipal politics after two terms.

Although Essex Mayor, Ron McDermott has not announced his intentions, another name has popped up there. Larry Snively already has experience in the mayor's chair having served from February 2002 to November 2003. He is currently the Ward 3 councillor for Colchester South.

Ward 4 Councillor Sherry Bondy has announced her intentions to run again for Essex Town Council, while Paul Innes will run again for the seat in Ward 3 after a failed bid in 2014. Another return candidate is Kim Verbeek in Ward 2.

John Paterson plans to run again for the mayor's position in Leamington.  Gord Queen has filed papers to return as Deputy Mayor.  Two new candidates have filed their nomination papers in for positions on council -- Derek Freissen and Brian Scott.

In Tecumseh, four incumbent town councillors hope to return after the election.  Andrew Dowie in Ward 1 is running again, along with Ward 4's Brian Houston, Tania Jobin in Ward 5, and Deputy Mayor Joe Bachetti.  Mayor Gary McNamara has already announced he'll run for another term.

Three officials have already declared in Amherstburg. Town councillor Leo Meloche has filed papers to run for deputy mayor, along with resident Bob Rozankovic. Current Deputy Mayor Bob DiPasquale has yet to announce his intentions.

Aldo DiCarlo has also announced he'll run for a second term as Amherstburg's mayor.

The nomination period for the 2018 municipal election closes at 2pm July 27.
