Board Looking To Implement Primary IB Program

The Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board is hoping to offer an International Baccalaureate in the primary grades at Christ the King Catholic Elementary School.

The primary years program is a framework to teach the children, through the Ontario curriculum, using the themes of the International Baccalaureate program.

"A parent would want to choose this if they are looking for that global context. We've heard from parents that the interest in IB is quite high," says Superintendent of Education Joseph Ibrahim.

He says the primary program would allow students the opportunity to complete the IB program through kindergarten to Grade 12.

The WECDSB offers the IB diploma program at Assumption College Catholic High School and Cardinal Carter Catholic Secondary School.

If accepted into the program, Christ the King elementary school will be the first primary years IB program in Windsor-Essex.

The board will find out if it is accepted into the program by June. They are looking to implement the program in September by phasing it into the school from kindergarten to Grade 3.
