Computer Problems Blamed For Long Delays At Ambassador Bridge

Commuting through West Windsor Thursday morning required a great deal of patience as long backups at the Ambassador Bridge spilt out onto Windsor streets.

At one point, truck traffic blocked all three lanes of Huron Church Rd. Southbound back to Malden Rd. Tecumseh Rd. W was impassible at one point for drivers trying to cross Huron Church Rd.

Ambassador Bridge General Manager Randy Spader says U.S. Customs and Border Protection started experiencing computer problems around 3am.

"When we do have any technical issues or processing issues, CBP and the Ambassador Bridge do work together to maximize facilities and resources to minimize [backups] until we get over that hump," says Spader.

That is standard practice at the bridge to help alleviate the impact on Windsor streets.

Later during the commute, the delay began to create backups at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel too as drivers attempted to bypass delays at the bridge.

Spader says the afternoon commute should be much easier.

"I'm not anticipating anything," he says. "We've been told it's been resolved and we're seeing normal traffic flow like we do on a regular Thursday."

The computer problem was resolved around 8:35am.
