Tap Water Is Brown? No Need To Panic

The Town of Tecumseh is warning its residents their tap water may be discoloured while it flushes hydrants.

"Your water is safe to drink," says a message on the town's website. "Occasionally, water becomes discoloured after hydrant flushing. If this happens, run your cold water tap for a few minutes until the water clears."

Previously, the town said it started flushing hydrants last Thursday, but has since issued an update.

The notice also said it is necessary to make sure flow and pressure through the hydrants are adequate in the event firefighters need to use them to extinguish a fire.

"Flushing is also done to remove sediment from the pipes in order to maintain water clarity and quality in the distribution system," it says.

If you have any questions, call the water department at 519-735-2184 ext. 141, 142, or 145.
