Tecumseh Hosting Earth Day Event Sunday

The town of Tecumseh is inviting people to help care for the planet.

Tecumseh is holding its second annual Earth Day event Sunday morning, and they are asking people to bring their boots and shovels and roll up their sleeves to help the environment.

“We held our first Earth Day celebration last year, and it was a resounding success,” said Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara in a news release. “This year we are grateful for the support of Essex Powerlines to build on last year’s success.”

The utility is following through on a promise to plant a tree for every customer in Tecumseh, LaSalle, Amherstburg and Leamington who switches to paperless billing. They will be providing a total of 1,000 trees throughout the four communities, including those planted at Lakewood Park South.

“Essex Powerlines is extremely proud of the community’s support and commitment to this great initiative,” said general manager Joe Barile in the press release. “We are truly making the community greener together. Thank you to the town of Tecumseh and its residents for making the 'Go Green, Plant a Tree Campaign' an outstanding success.”

A naturalisation area was begun at Lakewood Park South during the 2017 event and more trees will be planted in that section. The Tecumseh Youth Advisory Committee will also be on hand to supervise family-friendly activities, and representatives from the town will be there to help with tree planting and answer questions about Tecumseh's efforts to expand natural areas within its parks.

The event runs from 10am to 11:30am, weather permitting. There is no cost to participate.
