UPDATE: Driver Dies In Hospital After Lakeshore Crash

Essex County OPP say the driver who crashed into a hydro pole and landed in Big Creek Sunday morning has been pronounced dead at the hospital.

OPP in Lakeshore responded to a single vehicle collision on Sunday at around 9:25am.

According to police, a vehicle travelling eastbound on Essex County Rd. 42 near Big Creek left the roadway, collided with a hydro pole, and ended up being submerged in Big Creek.

Police say one person was pulled from the vehicle and taken to hospital by Windsor-Essex EMS. The Lakeshore Fire Department and Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services were also on scene to assist.

OPP say the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Further details will be released after next of kin are notified.

The OPP Technical Collision Investigation team has been called and is expected to remain on scene for the next several hours to investigate the cause of the crash.

Essex County Rd. 42 between Gracey Sideroad and Hwy. 401 will remain closed until the investigation has been completed.
