Government Reviewing Leave Days For Auto Workers

The provincial government is committing to reviewing rules around person emergency leave for the auto sector.

When the Employment Standards Act was changed this year auto workers were exempt from the provision which allows a minimum of ten emergency days off per year (two with pay) for most employees.

Instead, auto sector workers are only be entitled to seven personal emergency leave days.

As part of the government review, two independent reviewers Buzz Hargrove and Steacy Allerton will consult with the auto sector and provide recommendations to the government.

The review will evaluate how these provisions have impacted the auto industry in terms of competitiveness, job security, employment standards and growth of the sector in Ontario.
