Spitfires Beat Spirit 3-2 in Regular Season Finale

Brock Baier got his first OHL win as a goaltender for the Windsor Spitfires' regular season finale.

Baier had 31 saves out of a possible 33 in the Spits' 3-2 over the Saginaw Spirit Sunday afternoon at the WFCU Centre.

The win gives Windsor a total of 70 points on the season, overtaking the Guelph Storm for sixth place in the OHL Western Conference.

The Spitfires will face the Sarnia Sting in the first round of the OHL Playoffs.

Jake Smith scored for the third game in a row to put Windsor on the board first.

Nathan Staios doubled the Spits lead with his third goal of the season, scored at 6:17 of the second period. Saginaw cracked the scoreboard at 15:35 of the frame with D.J. Busdeker's goal, then tied the game 16 seconds later when Mason Kohn lit the lamp.

Smith struck again when Saginaw pulled goalie Evan Cormier for the extra attacker late in regulation, scoring the game winner with 33 seconds left.

Cormier had 27 saves for the Spirit.

The Spitfires start the playoffs on the road, with Game 1 at Sarnia's Progressive Auto Sales Arena Friday night.
